Inside Diameter - The inside diameter may be embossed on the winding cone. If not, carefully measure the diameter from inside wire to inside wire.
Wire Size - Measure the length of 20 coils in Inches. Divide the length by 20. The result will be your coil size. Double check using the color code chart below.
Example: 5 Inches/20 Coils = .250 Wire Size
Length - With the spring unwound, measure the full length (wire only) from first coil to last coil to the nearest inch.
Torsion springs are the most common counterbalance system and used on the majority of garage door brands.
Most customers purchase the exact replacement springs on their door.
It is best practice to replace both springs if you have two springs. If one spring has broken the other will likely break soon as well.

Here’s a polished, professional rewrite with a clear, positive tone:
Tyler took the time to carefully verify that I was ordering the correct spring size, gauge, and length for my application. Thanks to his expertise, I learned that I had actually selected the wrong wire gauge. He helped me get a properly matched left‑and‑right pair with identical length — all at no additional cost.
Great customer service that I can’t get from local big box stores.
product appears fine and well contrcuted - however from a customer standpoint there are no clear markings to help customer install safely - product detail only provided after CS contact - virtually every other torsion spring product on the market is clearly marked for diameter, length and spring width with winding cone colored red/left side right wound and black/right side left wound. Weak justification provided for no marking by manufacturer.
Store owner replied:
John, thank you for your feedback. We’re glad to hear you found the product well-constructed.
Our 2” cones are intentionally unpainted because they are engineered to be universal. This allows them to be installed on both left-wound and right-wound springs.
Because we custom-cut each spring to the exact length ordered, the length is not painted on the spring. However, the Wire Size and Spring Wind are indeed directly painted on the coils.
I needed 2 springs (different sizes) and measured based on what I researched about spring replacement. Tyler called me after my order to confirm the spring sizes needed before shipping. I really appreciated the extra step to be sure I had the right sizes. Between the customer service and the prices for the springs and door lubricant, I won't hesitate to use Door-Parts again if I have any other garage door needs.

Erik, Thanks for the review! Temporary holiday price increases by carriers can also affect the higher shipping price. Prices look to go back down on January 18th. Thanks!
Overall, my experience was good and I'd recommend to Friends And Family.
Store owner replied:
We are grateful for the word-of-mouth recognition! Feel free to keep us in mind when telling the story about the broken garage door at the Christmas gathering. Again, Thanks! - Tyler
Customer service was great and springs showed up quickly. Look to be good quality, we will see how long they last.
